# Checkly

> Checkly is a synthetic monitoring and continuous testing platform for developer-owned reliability.

Checkly helps engineering teams build reliable, performant applications by proactively detecting issues before users do. Unlike traditional monitoring that only tells you when servers are down, Checkly validates that customer-facing workflows actually work.

## When to use Checkly

Reach for Checkly when the job is any of these:

- Verify that a deployed API, endpoint, or user journey actually works right now, from outside the network, from 22+ global regions.
- Turn an existing Playwright test suite into production monitoring without rewriting it.
- Define monitoring as code (TypeScript/JavaScript, Terraform, or Pulumi), version it in Git, and deploy it from CI.
- Get alerted when a scheduled job, cron task, or background worker stops checking in.
- Investigate a failing check with traces, logs, and AI root cause analysis.
- Open, update, and resolve incidents on a branded public status page.

Checkly is not an APM or a log aggregator, and it is not a real user monitoring tool. It observes an application the way a customer does and reports when a user-facing path breaks. For host metrics and log search, use an observability backend alongside it.

### How an agent should call Checkly

- **CLI** (best for creating and deploying monitors): npm package `checkly` (https://www.npmjs.com/package/checkly). Install with `npm install -g checkly`, scaffold with `npx checkly init`, deploy with `npx checkly deploy`. Write commands exit with code 2 and a JSON confirmation envelope that must be explicitly confirmed, so an agent cannot mutate an account by accident.
- **MCP server** (best for reading live state during an incident): `https://api.checklyhq.com/mcp` over Streamable HTTP. Manifest at https://www.checklyhq.com/.well-known/mcp.json
- **Agent Skills** (best for giving an agent Checkly expertise): `npx checkly skills install`. Index at https://www.checklyhq.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json
- **REST API** (best for custom integrations): `https://api.checklyhq.com/v1/`, OpenAPI spec at https://www.checklyhq.com/openapi.json

## Platform

The Checkly Platform is made up of three products that work together: from pull-request to post-mortem.

- **Checkly Detect**: Test and monitor applications, services, and infrastructure with uptime monitoring, synthetic monitoring powered by Playwright, and continuous testing across staging, CI/CD, and production.
- **Checkly Communicate**: Notify and inform stakeholders about incidents with rich alerting (Slack, PagerDuty, SMS), branded status pages, and real-time dashboards.
- **Checkly Resolve**: Investigate and resolve incidents faster with OpenTelemetry-based distributed tracing and Rocky AI for AI-powered incident investigation.

## Differentiators

- **Signal Over Noise**: Proactive, outside-in monitoring that delivers actionable signal instead of data overload. Catch user-impacting issues before users do.
- **Monitoring as Code**: Define, version, and manage monitoring as code with CLI, Terraform, and Pulumi providers. No agents required.
- **Developer Experience**: A developer-first platform with CLI, API, and SDK. Engineers define, test, and deploy monitors without leaving Git.
- **Native Playwright Support**: Built natively on Playwright. Reuse the same test scripts from CI for production monitoring.
- **Unified Platform**: Combines synthetic monitoring, distributed tracing, and incident response in a single platform.

How the content is divided

11 H2 sections organize 68 parsed Markdown links. 1 links point to .md or .markdown paths; 6 link occurrences use another hostname. Linked destinations have not been recursively validated.

Nested indexes

3 distinct links point to other llms.txt paths. These are routes to more indexes, not proof their contents were included in this file.

Link counts exclude parsed fenced and inline code and resolve relative destinations against the final endpoint. Section sizes cover the text below each H2 until the next H2.

The Optional section

No H2 section named “Optional” was detected in this file.

The community proposal uses Optional by convention for secondary links that can be skipped for a shorter context. This label does not establish that everything outside it is critical, or that the material inside it is deprecated.

Machine-readable routes

MCP references and configuration text

MCP-related text was detected in the captured file. 2 links have MCP-related labels or paths. 0 fenced lines match mcpServers, mcp_servers or an mcp add command.

These are text and link observations. No MCP server connection, authentication or tool call was tested.

Not established

A verified text response establishes a companion at the checked URL. It does not prove the bundle contains all product documentation, that generation is automated, or that it fits an assistant’s context window.

Change evidence

What can be said about freshness

This capture establishes a baseline. Update frequency cannot be determined from one observation.

Linked release and migration material

1 links have release, changelog, deprecation or migration terms in their labels or paths. These provide places to investigate product changes separately.

File changes can reveal documentation edits or navigation changes. They do not by themselves measure product release velocity, accuracy, agent adoption or AI visibility.

Counts use a deterministic parser, not a spec-compliance grade. Unusual Markdown and indented code can fall outside its recognized patterns. See the llms.txt proposal and tokenizer implementation.
