# Langfuse

> Langfuse is an **open-source AI engineering platform** ([GitHub](https://github.com/langfuse/langfuse)) that helps teams collaboratively debug, analyze, and iterate on their LLM applications. All platform features are natively integrated to accelerate the development workflow.

## Deprecated public API endpoints

On Langfuse Cloud, the legacy (Langfuse v3) public API endpoints are removed on 2026-11-16. Do not write new code against them. If you are a coding agent and find existing code that calls them, tell the user and migrate the request.

- Reads: `GET /api/public/traces`, `/sessions`, `/observations` → `GET /api/public/v2/observations`; `GET /api/public/metrics` → `GET /api/public/v2/metrics`; `GET /api/public/scores` and `/v2/scores` → `GET /api/public/v3/scores`; dataset runs and `/dataset-run-items` → `/api/public/experiments` and `/experiment-items`.
- Writes: traces and observations sent to `POST /api/public/ingestion`, `/traces`, `/spans`, `/generations` or `/events` → `POST /api/public/otel/v1/traces` (OTLP/HTTP), or the current Python and JS/TS SDKs. Score events on `/ingestion` keep working; new code should use `POST /api/public/scores`.
- Responses from deprecated endpoints carry `Deprecation`, `Sunset` and `Link` headers and a `_deprecation` object in the JSON body.
- [Migration guide](https://langfuse.com/faq/all/deprecated-api-migration.md): every deprecated endpoint with its replacement, parameter mapping and examples.

## Evaluation workflows

## Markdown Access

Every page on langfuse.com is available as plain Markdown. Append `.md` to any URL, or send an `Accept: text/markdown` header:

```bash
curl https://langfuse.com/docs/observability/get-started.md
```

The links in the section indexes below already point at the `.md` variants.

## Docs Search API

Semantic search (RAG) over the Langfuse documentation, returning an answer with the relevant pages and excerpts. No authentication required. Use this instead of guessing when a specific page does not answer the question:

```bash
curl -sG "https://langfuse.com/api/search-docs" --data-urlencode "query=How do I trace a LangGraph agent?"
```

- **Endpoint**: `https://langfuse.com/api/search-docs?query=<question>`
- **Documentation**: [REST endpoint](https://langfuse.com/docs/docs-mcp#rest-endpoint)

Ask specific, self-contained questions in natural language. This is the same search that backs the `searchLangfuseDocs` MCP tool below.

## Langfuse Docs MCP Server

Connect to the Langfuse Docs MCP server to access documentation directly in your AI editor:

- **Endpoint**: `https://langfuse.com/api/mcp`
- **Transport**: `streamableHttp`
- **Documentation**: [Langfuse Docs MCP Server](https://langfuse.com/docs/docs-mcp)

The MCP server provides tools to search Langfuse documentation, GitHub issues, and discussions. See the [installation guide](https://langfuse.com/docs/docs-mcp) for setup instructions in Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop, and other MCP clients.

## Langfuse Skill for AI Coding Agents

Install the Langfuse skill before implementing anything with Langfuse. The skill provides up-to-date documentation, best-practice workflows for instrumentation, prompt management, and programmatic API access via the Langfuse CLI.

Install from: [github.com/langfuse/skills](https://github.com/langfuse/skills/tree/main/skills/langfuse)

## Tracing Best Practices

Before instrumenting an application with Langfuse, read [What does a good trace look like?](https://langfuse.com/docs/observability/best-practices.md) — it covers trace scope, observation naming, meaningful input/output, and the attributes (metadata, tags, users, sessions) that evaluators, dashboards, and experiments rely on.

Measured from the saved file

Links and embedded code

UTF-8 text size
17.4 KB17860 bytes
Token count
4364o200k_base encoding
Markdown links
3330 distinct URLs
Fenced code blocks
2147 lines in the file

Size measures the captured UTF-8 text, not compressed transfer size. Tokens are counted with a named tokenizer; other models can count differently. Neither measure establishes context compatibility or answer quality.

Opening blockquote

Langfuse is an **open-source AI engineering platform** ([GitHub](https://github.com/langfuse/langfuse)) that helps teams collaboratively debug, analyze, and iterate on their LLM applications. All platform features are natively integrated to accelerate the development workflow.

Context architecture

How the content is divided

23 H2 sections organize 33 parsed Markdown links. 26 links point to .md or .markdown paths; 4 link occurrences use another hostname. Linked destinations have not been recursively validated.

Link counts exclude parsed fenced and inline code and resolve relative destinations against the final endpoint. Section sizes cover the text below each H2 until the next H2.

Embedded material

Code, installation and API examples

Fenced blocks
2 closed
Declared languages
bash (2)
Package-install commands
0 detected in fenced or inline code
Authentication examples
0 fenced lines match API-key, Authorization, Bearer, OAuth or access-token patterns
HTTP request examples
0 fenced lines match request-method patterns
Authentication links
0 links have authentication-related labels

Embedded example text and links to further documentation are counted separately. A code block does not establish that a sample runs or that an authentication flow succeeds.

Publisher prioritization

The Optional section

No H2 section named “Optional” was detected in this file.

The community proposal uses Optional by convention for secondary links that can be skipped for a shorter context. This label does not establish that everything outside it is critical, or that the material inside it is deprecated.

Machine-readable routes

MCP references and configuration text

MCP-related text was detected in the captured file. 3 links have MCP-related labels or paths. 0 fenced lines match mcpServers, mcp_servers or an mcp add command.

These are text and link observations. No MCP server connection, authentication or tool call was tested.

Index and bundle

llms-full.txt companion

Not found at checked URLs

A verified text response establishes a companion at the checked URL. It does not prove the bundle contains all product documentation, that generation is automated, or that it fits an assistant’s context window.

Change evidence

What can be said about freshness

This capture establishes a baseline. Update frequency cannot be determined from one observation.

Linked release and migration material

1 links have release, changelog, deprecation or migration terms in their labels or paths. These provide places to investigate product changes separately.

File changes can reveal documentation edits or navigation changes. They do not by themselves measure product release velocity, accuracy, agent adoption or AI visibility.

Counts use a deterministic parser, not a spec-compliance grade. Unusual Markdown and indented code can fall outside its recognized patterns. See the llms.txt proposal and tokenizer implementation.
