Trigger.dev README
A workflow platform README that explains how tasks fit into an existing codebase, then connects deployment, environments and run visibility.
Our interpretation
Useful when you are building…
Developer-tool teams explaining an operational product whose value depends on what happens after code is written.
Observed in the source
Patterns and sections
Write tasks in your codebase
The README connects task authoring to version control, local development, testing and review.
Deployment and environments
Separate sections explain deployment and environment concepts rather than leaving them inside a feature list.
Getting started and Self-hosting
The starting route points to cloud onboarding; self-hosting links are separated into Docker and Kubernetes guides.
Section labels refer to the reviewed public source. Visual design and mobile behavior of the external page were not evaluated.
Adaptation ideas
What to apply to your own product
- Explain where your tool fits into the reader's existing workflow before listing every feature.
- Separate authoring, execution and inspection so the reader can form a sequence.
- Give hosted and self-hosted readers distinct next steps with clear ownership of infrastructure.
Tradeoff to consider
An account-based starting route suits a managed platform. A locally usable SDK should also show a complete local example instead of making signup its only next action.
Starting route
Use cloud project onboarding or the linked self-hosting guides; the README introduces those routes rather than proving their setup time.
