LESSON 3 OF 5
Write the brief
Write a brief that lets a candidate judge whether they can help and what they would need from you.
Include the customer, current evidence, business constraint, desired outcome, responsibilities, available resources and important exclusions. Name who approves changes and who owns work that depends on other teams.
For an illustrative SDK tutorial project, the brief might cover a supported runtime, verified installation, a working example, expected output, recovery instructions and one appropriate distribution route. Name the engineer who reviews technical accuracy, who supplies sandbox access and who maintains the tutorial after a release. Exclude ongoing support or community moderation unless they are part of the assignment.
Use the marketing hiring kit to draft the role or project charter. Replace generic responsibilities with the work you identified in lesson one.
Today, ask whether a qualified candidate could explain the assignment back to you. If the brief leaves success dependent on decisions nobody owns, resolve those responsibilities before starting selection.
Your completed brief is the basis for a fairer comparison in the next lesson.
